Ed Day is the Founder and President of the Heritage Benefits family of companies.

He earned a BS degree, cum laude, in research psychology from Denison University in Ohio in 1962, where he was president of the campus YMCA, and later elected National President of the college YMCAs.

He received a full scholarship to the Doctor of Social Science Degree Program at Syracuse University, where he studied for two years until his YMCA role led him to five years as a local and national civil rights leader, including Business Manager of National CORE under James Farmer,  Co-Founder with Dr. George Wiley of the National Welfare Rights Organization, and Coordinator of the opening demonstration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s. Second March On Washington.

As a self-taught industrial designer, Ed next founded Daysign Creations Inc., to manufacture his designs in mirrors, clocks, and wall-decor, sold through every major department and furniture store in the U.S., including Bloomingdale’s, Marshall Fields,and  Macy’s. He has been awarded nine U.S. Design Patents, including one for a sculptured acrylic mirror selected for The Design Collection of The Museum Of Modern Art.

He next spent ten years as an independent business consultant, most notably conducting a one-year study on Industrialized Housing for community development, funded by the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, and three years writing real estate syndication computer modeling programs for a major Ohio developer.

In the 1980’s he “discovered Seattle” and moved here, founding Heritage Benefits, which today serves some 3,000 estate and financial planning clients. He is especially proud of having saved his clients from over $200 million in unnecessary taxes and legal fees, through his firm’s practical estate and retirement planning.

In 2008-10 & 2013, the readers of Seattle Magazine named Ed as one of the “Best Wealth Managers in the Seattle Area”, with the added 2013 designation of “Five Star Wealth Manager”.

Ed is an avid flower gardener, golfer and grandparent.
